Development: oyoaha (UI and admin) & Managed Artwork (admin and framework)
The Portland Art Dealers Association (PADA) requested a website upgrade. They had a working framework whereby independent art galleries could manage an online art exhibit and show listing, but the whole effect somehow seemed incomplete. The content was there, but the message didn't seem to consistently come together. Here are a few highlights of oyoaha's final solution.
Dynamic UI: AJAX provided the tools needed for contextual navigation and a home page that visually allowed a focus for each gallery. The total site navigation structure allows access to all levels of information while still allowing the user to retain a sense of 'place'.
Design: Art Institutions have a specific visual language and vocabulary that was not fluently spoken via the original site. We made sure the new site used the vocabulary of both art galleries and the art community.
Site Administration: Effective technology should not replace designing an effective process. By improving the design workflow of the existing admin framework, the overall process of communication was improved.
Stuff for Geeks: One advantage of AJAX (i.e. in regards to Flash) is that it allows for building a site the "search-engine-friendly" way - at its core it's nothing more than good ol' html. You can have all your dynamic navigation effects and still do old-school things - like index pages. Very nice!
It is probably better to quit talking and just let you experience the solution for yourself. Please enjoy the attention paid to the details. We do.
